Now, it seems like everyone wants to be a GOAT.
There are GOATs for everything. Golf. Instagram. Nearly every hair-brained thing under the sun.
But what does a real GOAT, the Greatest of all Time at something, do? How do you do it? What would you do differently than all the others in your category?
Enter Tom Brady.
I started studying Tom Brady almost by accident. I had begun reading different Tampa Bay Buccaneers blogs to keep up with the team happenings. Then in early 2020, during the pandemic lockdown craziness, they signed the GOAT himself.
After this, the flood of articles about him began. How he did game prep. How he motivated his teammates. On and on the list goes.
One thing became clear to me, those that succeed at a high level think and do things differently. And they don’t just talk about things. They do it.
Just a run down of things Tom Brady did to attain the level of success he had is astounding.
He trained in a very specific manner. Without lifting heavy barbells.
He tweaked his diet to reduce or eliminate any kind of inflammation and heal quicker.
He was relentless in studying film to perfect his execution and understanding opposing team’s tendencies
And much more.
One thing Tom Brady was not during his career… lazy.
Which leads me to one reason you don’t hear God speak….
Laziness.
If you want to succeed at a high level in any area, you have to be willing to put in the work and prepare yourself. It’s not any different with God.
God does speak. He wants to speak personally with you. But often it’s too easy to be lazy when it comes to the things of God. I’ve seen it over and over again. Trying to be a spiritual hot shot when they can’t even pull their head out of Facebook long enough to pray.
Rip a page from Tom Brady’s playbook to hear God. Here’s how you do it…
Consistency. Be consistent with God. In prayer. In worship. In the Word of God. Don’t stop after one top or two times. Don’t stop after your 4 minute devotional.
Don’t be lazy. Train yourself.
